Roto-Rooter Plumbing Service at 7598 U.S. 11, Potsdam, New York.

Roto-Rooter came out to try to fix a clog we had in our pipes. It was convenient that they were open on the weekend, which is why we called them instead of Rivers Septic.

The technician seemed confident enough but had all kinds of difficulties tackling our problem. We knew more or less where the clog was and he tried running a cable down through a toilet and up through the septic clean out port but his cable kept going into the wrong areas. He seemed flabbergasted at this but kept trying. At one point his cable broke a pipe under our kitchen sink since it kept going up there. He was nice enough to fix that pipe for us, however.

Eventually he got the cable to go the right direction down from the toilet and worked to clear it for a long time with no success. He tore up the cable trying to get it out of the pipes too which is somewhat troubling--hopefully no damage was done to the pipe! All in all he left having had no success and with a check for $320. His suggestion was to cut away a wall in our basement and cut open a length of the pipe and he would come back the following Monday and see what he could figure out. This seemed extreme and somewhat ludicrous to us so instead we called River Septic on Monday and they came out and had it cleared up no problem in less than an hour.

I did upgrade this review to two stars instead of one because I called the company to complain about the experience and the owner apologized and sent me a refund of half the money we paid. That was a nice gesture and I do appreciate it. Other folks may very well have better luck with Roto-Rooter, but I will certainly not call them again.

Had awful odor in house. Charged me $70 to place a foot long piece of pipe under my sink for my vent (to make it taller) and made a huge mess cutting the pipe. Did not clean up their mess and took 5 minutes to install. Took my money and left. Did not look or inspect anywhere else at my home. I called later that day and said the smell was worse and lady who answered phone said she would have the tech call. A week and a half later still no call back and my husband found out from doing proper inspection that our sewer pipe broke under our home. When I called company back to ask about help they said I would have to pay fee again for them to come out and repairs. Very dissatisfied and if you need help with plumbing contact JMS in Ogdensburg instead. They helped us clean up and fix our major problem.
